Terms of Use

What Why Is Pain is

Why Is Pain is a personal logging tool. You record meals and stomach pain, and it looks for patterns between them over time. It runs entirely on your device.

What Why Is Pain is not

Why Is Pain is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. It shows you patterns in what you chose to log — nothing more. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Nothing the app shows you is a diagnosis, a prescription, or a recommendation. A pattern is a correlation between two things you wrote down; it is not proof that one caused the other, and the app says so where it matters. Do not start, stop, or change any treatment, medication, or diet on the strength of what this app tells you without talking to a professional first.

The app's output is only as good as what you put in, and it can be wrong. It can miss a real trigger you did not log, and it can point at something innocent that happened to keep company with the real cause.

Your data is yours

You own everything you log. We claim no rights over it, and we could not use it if we wanted to — it never reaches us. See the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for your own backups. The app can export a complete copy at any time, and we recommend you do it periodically. If you lose your phone, break it, or uninstall the app without an export, your diary is gone and we cannot recover it. There is no copy anywhere else. This is the direct cost of the app having no server, and it is a trade we made deliberately.

Payment

Why Is Pain is free to use in full for 30 days. After that, continuing to log new entries and view patterns requires a one-time payment.

The terms we hold ourselves to:

Purchases are processed by Google Play under its own terms. Refunds are handled by Google under Google Play's refund policy.

Acceptable use

There is not much to misuse here — the app has no accounts, no shared content, and no way to reach another user. Do not decompile, resell, or redistribute the app itself.

Availability and changes

Why Is Pain is provided as it is. We do not guarantee it will be free of bugs, that it will remain available on any particular app store, or that it will keep working on future versions of Android. We may update the app, change what it does, or stop developing it. If we ever stop, the app you have installed keeps working offline, and your export keeps working, because neither depends on us.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Why Is Pain is provided without warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it — including lost data, or any decision you made based on what the app showed you.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protections of your local law.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes with it, and the updated version is published at whyispain.makektm.com/terms.html.
